The ship Djabraba has arrived in Cape Verde to reinforce the maritime link between the islands of Brava and Fogo.

The journey to reach the Cape Verde archipelago included technical stops in France, Spain, Peniche and Madeira (Portugal), and the Canary Islands.

Measuring 26 meters in length and with a capacity to transport 85 passengers, in addition to cargo, the vessel is seen as "an important reinforcement" for the Brava-Fogo route, a line considered fundamental for the mobility of people and goods in the southern region of the country.

One of the vessel's owners, Robert Burnier, said on site that the arrival of the new vessel is accompanied by "great anticipation" from the local population, economic operators, and authorities, given the expected benefits for inter-island transport, the supply of essential goods, and the development of commercial activities between the two neighboring islands.

Before commencing regular operations, the vessel will undergo technical inspections and audits, as well as the licensing process by the Cape Verdean maritime authorities, an essential step to ensure compliance with all safety and navigation requirements stipulated by national legislation.

Once these bureaucratic and safeguarding procedures are completed, according to the same source, the vessel will officially enter service, contributing to "greater regularity" in maritime connections, increased passenger and cargo transport capacity, and improved mobility conditions for residents of Brava and Fogo.

According to Robert Burnier, the entry into operation of the “Djabraba” thus represents “another step in consolidating and strengthening maritime connectivity” in Cape Verde, bringing communities closer together, facilitating regional trade and boosting the economic and social development of the two islands.
